HILLARY COLTON

Star Maker is thrilled to welcome Hillary Colton to our staff this season. Hillary comes to us with a plethora of experience. She will be available for private appointments for vocal students wishing to hone skills and ready themselves for auditions and performance.

Hillary Colton is in her 20th year as Director of Choral Activities at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington, NJ where she directs the Chorale, Men Of Hunterdon, and the Jazz Choir, and co-directs the Concert Choir, Women's Choir, Freshman Mixed Choir, and the Freshman Women's Choir.

In 2006 Ms. Colton was named Master Music Teacher of the Year by the New Jersey Music Educators Association. She was also the recipient of the 2006 Governors Award for Excellence in Arts Education.

She received her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and her Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance and Music Education from The University of Delaware where she was named "Outstanding Student Teacher of the Year".

Ms. Colton had the honor of conducting the 2007 NJ All State Women's Choir. Ms. Colton was the inaugural conductor of the Central Jersey Region II Women's Honor's Choir. She also served as a rehearsal conductor for the 2003 NJ All State Choir. Ms. Colton is the Head Choral Director of the American Music Abroad Gold Tour Honors Choir which tours and concretizes in Europe every summer.

Hillary has served as the musical director of over 20 musicals in numerous schools. She is currently the musical director and conductor with the Flemington Raritan Community Theatre.

Choirs under Ms. Colton's direction consistently receive first place, Superior ratings in music festivals. Hunterdon Central Choirs have been selected to represent Hunterdon County at the State Teen Arts Festival 16 times. Under her tutelage the choral enrollment has increased from 40 to 300 students. Over 500 students have been selected for membership in honors choirs during her tenure at HCRHS. The High School music faculty has increased from two to six full time music teachers.

Ms. Colton is the Past President of the Central Jersey Music Educators Association and serves on the NJMEA Board. CJMEA Board, on the All State Choral Procedures Committee and is the Head Counselor for the NJ All State Mixed Choir. She has been a clinician for NJMEA, NJEA and ACDA. Hillary has also managed the Region II Mixed Choir.

Equally at home on the concert and opera stage Ms. Colton frequently performs as a soloist with the Hunterdon Symphony and Choral Union and has performed in Europe and the tri state area in operas, oratorios and recitals.

Ms. Colton was the featured cover story in the September - October 2006 issue of Choral Director Magazine.
